Information and Media Minister, Cornelius Mweetwa, has assured that the government was actively working on measures to reduce the cost of living in Zambia.
During a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, Mweetwa acknowledged that both load shedding and the high cost of living were major concerns for the government.
He reassured citizens that these issues would be addressed with good rainfall, which he expressed believe would help ease the challenges.
“With good rainfall, we expect the cost of living to start slowing down, including load shedding. Zambians should not be misled by opposition lies; President Hakainde Hichilema is in control,” Mweetwa stated.
He added that soon the public would be informed about the expected level of load shedding based on expert evaluations of the country’s hydrology.

Mweetwa also highlighted the positive outcomes of President Hichilema’s recent trip to Japan which has reportedly led to a Japanese company expressing interest in investing in a 300-megawatt solar project in Sesheke district, Western Province.
Additionally, he said that Japan had committed to helping Zambia replace the Luangwa Bridge with a new structure.
Addressing the ongoing currency changes, Mweetwa explained that the Bank of Zambia’s decision to introduce new banknotes was aimed at enhancing security features to combat the rise in counterfeit currency.
He pointed out that the increasing use of technology had led to more incidents of counterfeiting, which the government was working to address.
