Govt to roll out digital payments of the social cash transfer scheme

Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has announced that it is in the process of rolling out digital payments of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT).

The Ministry is targeting to reach over 1.37 million beneficiaries by end of 2023, according to a statement issued on Sunday by government.

It also indicated that it had enhanced sensitisation programmes to educate beneficiaries on the transition from physical to digital payment system, meant to promote efficiency, effectiveness and transparency.

Amidst the development, the Ministry which is targeting to reach over 1.37 million beneficiaries by end of 2023, has also enhanced sensitization programmes to educate beneficiaries on the transition from physical to digital payment system.

“The sensitisation exercise has since been conducted at Mukuni Royal Village in Kazungula District in Southern Province, with various stakeholders in attendance, to appreciate the new development which is also happening in other parts of the country,” the statement read.

It further indicated that mobile service providers and financial institutions, such as banks, were present to showcase their financial services to the beneficiaries, meant to facilitate digital payment on various platforms.

“Stakeholders have appreciated government for the unprecedented development not only to promote financial inclusion, but to enhance transparency in the disbursement of public funds to vulnerable members in society,” it stated.
