Govt tasks public officers in education sector with achieving zero audit queries

The Zambian government has tasked 575 non-accounting public officers trained at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in the education sector with eliminating unethical practices and helping achieve the Ministry of Education’s goal of zero audit queries by 2025.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, speaking through Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet Office, Wisdom Bwalya, urged the graduates to apply their training to address the nine most common audit issues already identified within the sector.

Kangwa stated the importance of their role in tackling audit queries, stressing that once achieved, these measures must be sustained.

During the graduation ceremony in Kafue, Kangwa directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education to institute measures in Lusaka Province to attain zero audit queries by the fourth quarter of 2025, further noting that graduates have already begun raising concerns when proper procedures are not followed in public service.

“This is the kind of training that is value for money by solving real and practical challenges that officers face in executing their duties,” Kangwa said, urging graduates to uphold clarity, certainty, commitment, and continuous improvement in their roles within schools.

Acting Accountant General, Hector Sampa, emphasised the importance of financial management practices for the sustainability and improvement of educational services.

He noted that the increase in resources due to free education had made the role of non-accounting officers crucial in managing budgets and ensuring the efficient, transparent use of funds.

NIPA Executive Director, Jacob Malungo, highlighted that the 574 graduates are part of a broader target of 21,000, and encouraged those completing the training to pursue higher studies in the same program.

He also commended the government’s commitment to resource mobilisation, which reportedly had enabled NIPA to deliver its mandate effectively.
