The government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving family planning services through strategic initiatives, including expanding service delivery points, introducing new contraceptive methods, and enhancing education and counselling programmes.
This was revealed by President Hakainde Hichilema in a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Health, Dr Elijah Muchima, during the opening of the Sexual Reproductive Health Alliance Conference at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka.
President Hichilema acknowledged the progress made in increasing contraceptive prevalence rates, reducing unintended pregnancies, and improving maternal health outcomes.
However, he noted that challenges in accessing contraceptives remained a significant barrier in the country.
“Government has implemented strategic interventions to scale up life skills education, enhance community-based sexual reproductive health services, and strengthen partnerships with civil society organizations and the private sector,” the President stated.
He also called on men to actively support family planning and sexual reproductive health initiatives, emphasizing their critical role in promoting health and development.
The President reiterated government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring quality reproductive health services for all Zambians, showcasing the strides made as a testament to this dedication.
Jonathan Stack, the founder of World Vasectomy Day, highlighted the importance of men participating in family planning, stating that the movement aimed to empower them to plan better for their families and encourage others to join the cause.
