Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, has appealed to Indian renewable energy investors to establish manufacturing plants for solar panels, batteries, inverters and other accessories in Zambia.
During a courtesy call by Indian High Commissioner to Zambia, Ashok Kumar, in Lusaka on Sunday, Mposha highlighted the substantial regional demand for renewable energy products.
“We make an earnest appeal to your government that you may impress upon the Indian renewable energy equipment manufacturers and other experts to consider setting up manufacturing plants in Zambia,” Mposha said.

He added that establishing renewable energy manufacturing plants would help Zambia mitigate the impact of the hydropower crisis, transfer clean energy technologies, conserve the environment and create employment opportunities for locals.
Mposha also called for close collaboration between Zambia and India in the fields of meteorology, forestry and environment, among other areas of mutual interest.
High Commissioner Kumar responded positively, expressing gratitude for the Zambian government’s willingness to provide incentives to Indian investors in solar production.
He emphasized that such incentives would attract Indian investors and secure a regional market for their products.
“The Indian government is committed to further strengthening bilateral ties with Zambia and collaborating with the Ministry in meteorology, forestry, and environment, and other areas,” Kumar stressed.
