The Ministry of Education has launched a public digital platform to track real-time classroom assessment results for primary learners, focusing on literacy.
The initiative, developed with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Let’s Read programme, aims to improve the tracking and understanding of learning outcomes in early education.
The Enhanced Performance Tracking System (ePTS) is a digital dashboard hosting standardized literacy assessment data and school performance metrics from government and community schools.
Education Minister, Douglas Syakalima, who launched the platform on Tuesday at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, described the system as a transformative tool.
“The ePTS is a game-changer. This digital platform represents a leap forward in collecting, managing, and utilizing education data. Through the ePTS, we can now track learner performance, school-level achievements, and teacher efficiency in real time,” Syakalima said.
He stated that the system would establish a foundation for evidence-based decision-making to transform foundational teaching and learning in Zambia.
Currently, nearly 5,000 public and community schools in Eastern, Muchinga, Northwestern, Southern, and Western provinces are regularly uploading assessment data.
Syakalima added that the Ministry planned to expand the platform to include all primary schools and additional subjects, such as numeracy.
The Ministry said it remained committed to equipping educators, administrators, and policymakers with timely and reliable data to monitor learner performance and enhance school support systems.
