The Zambian government has reportedly paid off salary arrears to TAZARA workers amounting to over K37 million, covering three of the five months owed.

The remaining balance will be settled as soon as funds are available, according to Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali.

In a statement issued on Friday, Tayali assured the workers that the government would not neglect their plight but would instead work to normalize their situation.

“What the workers have been going through is not something to ignore because they too, like any other employee deserve to get what they have worked for as they have families to look after,” he said.

The Minister also expressed gratitude for the workers’ patience, acknowledging their understanding in allowing his office to source part of their salary arrears without downing tools.
