The government says that power shortage and the impacts of the drought have driven the country to pursue previously untapped alternative energy sources.
Local Government and Rural Development, Minister Gary Nkombo, said that the crisis presented an opportunity for citizens to create innovations that could advance the country.
The Minister made these remarks in Lusaka on Saturday during a tour of the Chinese stands at the 96th Agricultural and Commercial Show.

“This pavilion has provided a lot of revelation as to where the solutions really lay,” he said.
Nkombo also noted that many exhibitors at the show grounds were addressing the climate change challenges the country was facing.
“Energy is in short supply but what I have seen here today is that there are alternative energy sources at domestic level up to 10 kilowatts of power,” he said.
Nkombo pointed out that the crisis had equipped people for any future similar problems.
“Going into the future, if we find ourselves in a situation such as we are in as a country, we will not go into panic mode,” he stated.
Additionally, Nkombo mentioned that the crisis had prompted the ministry to seek out equipment for agricultural mechanisation.
“What we have seen here is phenomenal, we have bulldozer tractors that can do so much in terms of land clearing,” he stressed.
