The Zambian government has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging digitization to create inclusive, efficient, and sustainable social protection systems.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Angela Kawandami, highlighted the transformative role of digital solutions in improving accessibility, transparency, and efficiency in service delivery.
Speaking at a United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA)-facilitated capacity-building workshop held at the Royal Livingstone Safari Hotel in Livingstone on Tuesday, Kawandami noted ongoing challenges in the sector, including siloed data management systems and inadequate ICT infrastructure.

“The government is working to address these gaps while advancing digital transformation, as evidenced by the establishment of e-governance and integration of technology into government operations,” Kawandami said.
This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.
She emphasized the ethical use of technology and called on stakeholders to innovate and adapt to global technological advancements to strengthen the social protection sector.
UNDESA Inter-regional Advisor, Claudio Santibanerz, praised Zambia’s social protection models and encouraged long-term partnerships to support system integration and enhance the developmental impact for beneficiaries.
The workshop underscored the importance of digital transformation in achieving effective, resilient, and responsive social protection frameworks.
