Government has dismissed allegations that it had been harassing former President Edgar Lungu, claiming that the accusations were both unfortunate and without basis.
Acting Minister of Information and Media, who is also Government Chief Spokesperson, Makozo Chikote, said that the government had not harassed the ex-leader in any way since he left office.

“The institution of the former President has been respected and upheld by this government, as per law established.
“The former President is fully enjoying his liberties and entitlements in accordance with his status and as enshrined in the law,” Chikote stated in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.
He emphasized that Lungu’s immunity was a privilege granted exclusively to him and does not extend to any member of his family members.
Chikote further stated that if any family members of Lungu were found in violation of the law, they would be subjected to legal proceedings like any other citizen.
“Government reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rule of law for the benefit of all citizens of which the former President is a part of,” he added.
