A Skills and Digital Jobs programme aimed to addresses the challenges faced by Zambian youths has been launched by Youths, Sports and Arts Minister, Elvis Nkandu in Lusaka on Tuesday.

This initiative will help address the challenges faced by Zambian youths, such as unemployment, limited digital literacy and insufficient skills.

The first Skills Academy under the MTN Foundation seeks to develop digital technology producers and consumers.

Nkandu noted that this comes at a crucial time when the Zambian government is actively working on ways
to improve digital literacy among the youths to bridge the digital divide in the country.

He highlighted that the Academy’s focus on providing accessible online training in digital
and financial skills and work readiness programmes will be instrumental in equipping the Zambian youth with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy.

Speaking at the same event, Foundation Chairperson, Rose Sibisi, said their goal of creating impactful solutions that cater for the needs of Zambian youth by enhancing opportunities and addressing unemployment will be achieved through the Digital Skills Academy.

She added that the Foundation will work with the Zambian government and other stakeholders to ensure that the Zambian youth are empowered with the necessary skills and resources needed for them to excel in this fast digital age.

Chief Chief Executive Officer, Bart Hofker, said that their commitment to the ‘Digital Skills for Digital Jobs’ programme is aimed at bridging the gap
between digital skills training and job demand.

He said that the launch of Digital Skills Academy aligns with the company’s “Ambition 2025” strategic objective that aims to create a skilled workforce to take advantage of digital opportunities.

“The Digital Skills Academy is a significant step towards achieving our belief that “everyone
deserves the benefits of a modern connected life,” Hofker said.

This will be done through a collaborative effort between the Zambian government, the Foundation, private sector partners, PACE Career Center and Coursera.
