The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has identified poultry farming as a crucial element in Zambia’s transition from an economy dependent on mining to one focused on agriculture.

Bornwell Mupeyo, Director of Livestock at the Ministry, said the poultry farming was already playing a vital role in food security, job creation and rural development.

He made these comments in Lusaka on Tuesday during the launch of the Zambia International Poultry Expo 2024 at the showgrounds.

“The poultry industry supports thousands of livelihoods, ranging from smallholder farmers to large-scale producers,” Mupeyo noted.

He called on poultry farmers to meet the growing market demands by investing in technology, infrastructure and skills development.

“These investments are essential to ensure that farmers and producers are well-equipped to compete on regional and international levels,” he added.
