The government has urged students to embrace robotics and technology as part of the school curriculum, aiming to develop creators, innovators and leaders for the digital age.

Minister of Education, Douglas Siakalima, stated that integrating robotics into Zambia’s educational framework reflected the government’s vision for a future where Zambian innovation was recognised globally.

He made these remarks in a speech delivered by Permanent Secretary for Administration, Noriana Muneku, during the “Russian Initiative: Days of Robotics and Innovation Educational Technologies” event at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in Lusaka on Tuesday.

“We are not simply teaching our children to use technology; we are empowering them to become creators, innovators and leaders in the digital age,” Siakalima stated.

He added that the government was committed to investing in infrastructure and empowering Zambian youth to help them realise their full potential.

“Our goal is to encourage a generation that sees technology not as a luxury but as a powerful tool for solving real-world problems and driving national development,” he said.

Russian Ambassador to Zambia, Azim Yarakhmedov, noted the potential success of educational exchanges, anticipating the arrival of Russian students in Zambia to share knowledge with their peers.

“I would like to encourage students to learn from our Russian guests,” he said.

NIPA Acting Executive Director, Elliot Mumba, stated that the institute was focused on blending technological advancement with public service excellence.

“We are not merely adopting technology; we are reshaping how public servants learn, innovate and serve,” she explained.

Mumba highlighted that robotics and artificial intelligence are vital for creating an environment where creativity meets efficiency, innovation drives service delivery and future leaders are nurtured.

“The integration of robotics in education goes beyond mere technological adoption; it cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and practical skills essential for modern public service,” she said.
