The Zambian government has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in agricultural research, extension services, and infrastructure to foster sustainable agriculture.
During the Site and Field Orientations for the Sustainable Luangwa Project on Sunday, Dr Douty Chibamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, emphasized support for farmers in adopting sustainable practices.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Chibamba encouraged farmers to embrace innovative techniques that minimize waste, conserve water, and protect biodiversity.
He highlighted that the new tools provided were instruments of empowerment rather than mere material possessions.
“This event marks a significant step forward in our nation’s agricultural sector, as we strive to promote sustainable farming practices and foster rural development,” he said.
Chibamba praised the resilience of farmers, noting their hard work was vital to the agricultural industry.

“As we distribute these modern agricultural tools, we are not merely providing resources; we are investing in the future of our nation.
“These implements are designed to enhance productivity, reduce environmental impact, and improve the livelihoods of our farmers,” Chibamba said
He stressed that adopting sustainable practices would safeguard Zambia’s natural resources, ensure food security, and strengthen the agricultural sector.
“Use them wisely and responsibly to cultivate healthy crops, generate sustainable income, and improve the lives of your families and communities,” Chibamba urged.
“As we embark on this journey of agricultural transformation, our success depends on our collective efforts. Let us work together to create a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector, one that benefits all Zambians,” he added.
