Govt cancels disbursement of 2023 CDF grants in Serenje

The Serenje Town Council in Central Province has with immediate effect canceled the disbursement of the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants, which were approved in principle.

Council Secretary, Milly Muluti, made the announcement in a statement issued in Serenje on Monday and made available to Zambia Monitor.

Muluti said the cancellation followed guidance by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development that the funds approved by the CDF Committee might not yield significant economic impact to the beneficieries.

He said, therefore, no funds will be disbursed to the beneficieries until the process is reviewed.

“The Ministry has since advised the CDF Committee to review the process, award significant figures, and reduce the number of beneficieries on their proposed approved list within 10 working days,” Muluti said.

He said the local authority deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and had apologized to all the prospective beneficieries who worked hard in applying for the funds.
