The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has scheduled the Petauke Central Constituency by-election in Eastern Province for Thursday, February 6, 2025.

On the same date, by-elections will also be held for Ntanda Ward in Mpongwe District, Copperbelt Province, and Litawa Ward in Mongu District, Western Province.

ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager, Patricia Luhanga, announced the schedule in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, stating that voting would take place from 06:00 to 18:00 hours on polling day.

Luhanga further revealed that nominations for the by-elections would be conducted on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

“Campaigns will officially begin on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, and end at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, February 5, 2025,” she stated.

The Petauke Central by-election was necessitated by the absence of lawmaker Emmanuel Banda, who has been a fugitive since August 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, the vacancies in Ntanda and Litawa wards resulted from the deaths of their respective area councillors.
