The Socialist Party has cautioned the Catholic Church not to forget what the United Party for National Development (UPND) thinks of them as they prepare for dialogue
Party spokesperson, Frank Bwalya, however welcomed calls for dialogue between government and the Church.
Bwalya in an interview said that his party welcomed the call for dialogue by the UPND between the church and the party because there should be no rift between them.
“The catholic church should not forget what the UPND as a party thinks of them as they go into this dialogue,” he said.

He recalled that the UPND called the catholic purists as “Lucifers, prostitutes, homosexuals and sinners”.
Bwalya said the country witnessed senior UPND officials including the party secretary general, Batuke Imenda competing amongst themselves to see who insulted the priest the most.
“It was unfortunate and because this is what the UPND thinks of the catholic church, I don’t think they will apologize for it,” he said.
He said in as much as the Socialist Party encouraged dialogue and reconciliation the church must forgive but not forget what the UPND thinks of them.
Bwalya said they would be on the lookout on how the party and his leadership was going to take the matter forward.
