The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) has announced an additional investment of about K55 million into creosote treatment line and a wooden pole drying kiln.

ZAFFICO Public Relations Manager, Irene Chipili, disclosed this to Zambia Monitor on Monday in Ndola.

Chipili said this is in order to meet the current and growing demand for treated poles in the country.

She said this investment will increase production levels of creosote poles from the current 70,000 to 160,000 poles per annum representing a percentage production increment of 128 percent.

“The Corporation has since awarded contracts for the design, supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the kiln and creosote treatment line,” Chipili said.

She said ZAFFICO is also in the process of undertaking Environmental Impact Assessment for the Plant to ensure compliance to relevant environmental legislation.

“The Plant is expected to be commissioned in October 2023,” Chipili said.

Early this year, the company also announced plans to invest over $32million in a pole treatment plant for value addition and wood processing.

Chipili said the investment will see the company add more value to producing high quality poles for power transmission in the energy sector.

“ZAFFICO is currently processing high quality wood for the country’s mining and the construction industries which have continued growing,” she said.
