Football association warns fans ahead of Zambia-Chad AFCON qualifier

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has issued a stern warning to football fans against throwing missiles on the pitch during matches, whether in celebration or protest.

FAZ president, Andrew Kamanga, cautioned that such behavior could lead to severe sanctions, including Zambia being forced to play home matches in neutral venues.

Ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifier between Zambia and Chad in Ndola, Kamanga stressed the importance of maintaining the privilege of hosting home games.

“The Chipolopolo boys have regrouped in Ndola for Friday’s Group G Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad,” he stated in a press release on Monday.

Kamanga urged fans to rally behind the team, noting the need for strong support before the return leg in Yaoundé just four days later.

He also emphasized the importance of making back-to-back AFCON appearances to secure Zambia’s place among Africa’s football elite.

On youth football development, Kamanga highlighted the under-20 national team’s AFCON participation as a key stepping stone for future stars.

He expressed optimism that the team, bolstered by European-based talents, could replicate their 2017 AFCON victory.

Kamanga also acknowledged the under-17 girls’ team, which is set to depart for the Dominican Republic after resolving visa issues.

The team would compete in Group D at the U-17 World Cup, facing Brazil, Japan, and Poland, with hopes of playing friendly matches ahead of their opening game.
