The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has accepted that the rehabilitation of the four stadia have fallen behind schedule and remains optimistic of its revised delivery time.
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is funding the rehabilitation of four stadia in Luapula (Kaole), Northern (Kasama), Eastern (David Kaunda) and North Western (Independence) at a total cost of US$300,000 each.
In giving an update on the progress made, FAZ acting General Secretary Iva Lengwe said they had taken note of the insinuations of alleged mismanagement of the FIFA funded stadia rehabilitation project.

Lengwe said the projects are FIFA funded with a clearly defined process for access to the funds.
“FIFA is providing US$300, 000 for each of the four stadia and these funds are subject to auditing both internally and externally.
“For each of the four stadia, there is a designated contractor selected through a transparently defined process. Contractors have obligations that they have to meet according to their contracts,” Lengwe said.
He said FIFA has at every stage of the projects taken interest and time to visit the sites.
Additionally, FAZ has an internal committee that acts as an oversight over the projects.
Lengwe said FAZ has been working closely with other stakeholders including the National Council for Construction (NCC) in ensuring that the works done are within the stipulated standards.
He says FAZ has routinely provided updates on the progress on the stadia.
“While the projects may have fallen behind schedule, we have kept tabs on the projects and remain confident the revised delivery times as per contracts will be met,” Lengwe said.
