Five members of the FixZESCO movement have filed a lawsuit against ZESCO Limited in the Lusaka High Court, seeking compensation for false imprisonment, assault and battery.
The plaintiffs—Thompson Luzendi, Given Kapolyo, Mwiza Zulu, Rizicky Fatacky, and Mputa Ngalande, alleged they were wrongfully detained and physically harmed by ZESCO’s security personnel on August 2, 2024, at the Lusaka Agricultural and Commercial Show.
According to the plaintiffs, the incident occurred after they visited ZESCO’s stand to learn about a new net-metering system.
As they were leaving, two female members of the group were reportedly mishandled by ZESCO security, leading to an altercation in which all five plaintiffs were detained.

They claim they were forcibly taken to ZESCO’s headquarters, confined for hours in poor conditions, and later released without explanation.
The plaintiffs argued that ZESCO’s actions violated their constitutional rights and caused significant emotional and psychological distress.
They are seeking aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as legal costs, through the court.
Despite initial demands for compensation, ZESCO had reportedly refused to address the claims, prompting the legal action.
