First Lady Mutinta Hichilema has emphasized the need to prioritise health infrastructure, resources, and personnel, particularly in underserved regions such as Northern Province.

Speaking through Minister’s Spouses Association Chairperson, Dr. Grace Mutati, during a donation event in Kasama on Monday, the First Lady noted that districts like Kasama faced significant challenges—including inadequate infrastructure and medical personnel—yet had immense potential to deliver greater health impact.

The donation, which included 300 bags of 25kg mealie meal and other essential supplies to Kasama General Hospital, was described as a gesture of solidarity with the community and a tribute to the resilience of frontline health workers.

“Kasama General Hospital is not just a medical facility—it is a beacon of hope, a lifeline for thousands of families, and a testament to the strength and resilience of the community,” she said, according to a statement issued by Northern Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Sandra Mulenga.

The First Lady added that healing goes beyond medicine, requiring proper nourishment, hygiene, and above all, compassion.

Northern Province Minister, Leonard Mbao, speaking through Kasama District Commissioner, Annie Paul, thanked the First Lady for her support, stating that the donation would leave a lasting impact on the community.

“These items will significantly contribute to the hospital’s daily operations, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. This act of kindness reflects the First Lady’s commitment to the welfare of our communities, especially the most vulnerable,” Mbao said.

Kasama General Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Satchmo Shyamayanda, also welcomed the donation, noting that it would greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare across the province.
