The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has raised concerns over governance issues affecting Zambian football, following the cancellation of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Annual General Meeting (AGM).
FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer, Gelson Fernandes said FIFA would assess the situation at FAZ and submit internal reports.
Speaking to journalists after the AGM’s cancellation in Livingstone on Saturday, Fernandes expressed concern over the financial impact on FAZ and its members who had traveled for the meeting.
“The current situation is unpleasant and is affecting football development in a country blessed with great talent admired by others,” Fernandes said.
He noted that FIFA and CAF had provided governance recommendations, which were agreed upon but not implemented by FAZ.
“Football must be the priority—focusing on development and giving hope to young players—rather than legal battles disrupting key events,” he added.

Fernandes assured that FIFA and CAF remain committed to supporting Zambian football and would work towards solutions.
“FIFA’s leadership, including the President and General Secretary, are dedicated to making football happen. Once we complete studying the documents collected, appropriate measures will be taken,” he stated.
Earlier, FAZ General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, announced the AGM’s cancellation due to a court order obtained by Elijah Chileshe and Blackwell Siwale, represented by Lewis and Nathan Advocates.
“I can confirm that FAZ has been served with a court order from Lewis and Nathan Advocates through our lawyers Joseph Chirwa and Company, restraining us from proceeding with the AGM,” Kamanga said.
