A visibly composed and confident Alinani Ngambi, a female soldier from Nyumba Yanga Township, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, firmly denying charges of assaulting a police officer in an incident that allegedly left him with facial injuries.

Ngambi, 29, stood before Resident Magistrate Amy Masoja, facing accusations of attacking Sergeant Kaluba Mataka (Badge No. 40618) on January 15, 2025.

Dressed in civilian attire, she maintained a calm demeanor as the charge was read out.

She pleaded not guilty to the offense, which falls under Section 250(b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The trial is scheduled to commence on February 25, with Ngambi’s bond extended.

According to the allegations, Sergeant Mataka was assaulted after instructing Ngambi to stop her vehicle to allow passage for a motorcade.
