The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga, has urged the Lusaka High Court to reject the Attorney General’s bid to represent Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu in a defamation lawsuit.
Kamanga argued that Nkandu is being sued in his personal capacity, asserting that the Minister’s statements were part of a personal campaign to undermine his leadership at FAZ.
In an affidavit opposing the Attorney General’s involvement, Kamanga claimed that Nkandu’s actions, including public accusations and efforts to discredit him, were driven by a personal vendetta rather than official duties.
He insisted that Nkandu should face the lawsuit without state support.

“Nkandu’s statements and actions were motivated by his own personal agenda to diminish my leadership at FAZ. Such conduct, being personal in nature, requires him to defend himself privately, without the state’s involvement,” Kamanga stated.
Kamanga further alleged that Nkandu, alongside former FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala, orchestrated a campaign to erode his authority.
This reportedly included public defamation and an attempt to reinstate former FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya in a supervisory role over national teams.
The Attorney General has filed summons seeking to join the proceedings and represent the Minister in the case.
