The Small-Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has called on the government to find a permanent solution to the recurring armyworm infestation that continues to threaten crops across Zambia.
SAFADA Chief Executive Officer, Boyd Moobwe, expressed concern over the persistent nature of armyworm outbreaks, which he said jeopardized both national and household food security.
He highlighted that the annual occurrence of armyworms had become a major challenge for small-scale farmers.
In an interview, Moobwe emphasised that SAFADA believed a long-term solution existed and urged the government to introduce a statutory instrument and policy framework to effectively address the armyworm menace.
He further recommended that the government should collaborate with the private sector to find sustainable solutions to pests affecting Zambia’s agricultural sector.
Moobwe concluded by stressing the importance of taking decisive action to protect Zambia’s agriculture and ensure food security for the country’s growing population.
