Former Presidential Press aide, Amos Chanda, has renewed his application to the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court to release his passport, which was surrendered as part of his bail conditions.
Chanda seeks his passport to travel to India for urgent medical attention, as advised by his doctors at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad.
In March, Chanda was granted bail of K40,000, along with his wife and sister-in-law, pending their appeal against a seven-month sentence for obstructing ACC officers.
However, the court ordered them to surrender their travel documents.
Chanda initially withdrew his application for passport release after Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili requested medical confirmation of his condition.
Now, he has renewed the application, stating that his medical condition required immediate treatment and providing a fresh appointment schedule for one month at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad.
Chanda assured the court that he would return to Zambia after his treatment and surrender his passport as per the bail conditions.
Magistrate Irene Wishmanga asked Chanda to provide specific dates from his doctors.
She is scheduled to rule on the application on June 20, 2024.
