Ex-leader, Edgar Lungu, has withdrawn a case in which he had sought judicial review on the government’s decision to prevent him from traveling to South Korea for a World Peace Conference.
Zambia Monitor on Sunday reported that Lungu and his wife, Esther, were ejected from an aircraft on Saturday and stopped from traveling to South Korea to attend a World Peace Conference.
While State House said they were not aware of the development, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that Lungu was stopped because he did not get clearance from Cabinet.

Lungu, therefore, made an application in the High Court to seek judiciary review proceedings against the Director of the Immigration who had stopped him from traveling to South Korea for reasons that he must seek permission from Cabinet Office before he travels as communicated to him by Linda Mtonga.
Through his lawyers, Makebi Zulu, Lungu decided to withdraw the matter after being granted an inter parte date hearing of September 25, 2023.
“Take Notice that the applicant herein having been given an inter parte hearing of September 25, 2023 rating to an application to commence judicial review proceedings filled on September 17, 2023 with a certificate of urgency and noting that the conference for which it relates to ends on September 20, 2023.
“Further having considered this matter in light of the date of the conference and date of hearing shall amount to academic exercise, the applicant herein now gives notice that this matter is now and hereby wholly withdraws/discontinue the matter for the above stated reasons.”
This is according to the notice of withdrawal signed by his lawyers Makebi Zulu.
