Ex-Nkana midfielder, Chaila, sues club over alleged unpaid K235,000 wages

Midfielder, Misheck Chaila, has launched a K235,000 claim against 13-times Zambian Super League champions Nkana Football Club over unpaid wages .

The 33-year-old claimed the Club owed him K170,000 being signing on fees, K40,000 graduity and K125,170 unpaid winning bonuses.

Chaila cited the club Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Mutafu, as the defendant in the matter filed on Thursday before the Lusaka High Court.

The litigant who claimed he was still an employee at Nkana said the club had neglected to settle the said dues despite several correspondences to have the matter settled amicably.

He stated that according to a two year contract he signed with the club on November 26, 2020, he was entitled to inter alia; a signing on fee of K170, 000, net salary of K20, 000 and bonus of K3, 000 for a home or away win.

Chaila said the club stopped paying him his wages without any justification from July, 2021, till the time of his release from the club on December 29, 2021.

“The Plaintiff shall aver at trial that in August 2021, he resigned from the defendant’s Club on the basis of lis failure to meet its contractual obligations. On December 29, 2021, the defendant released the Plaintiff from the club without settling any of the outstanding money that was owed to him,” he said.
