Ex-MP, Banda, alleges politicization of Ncwala event, warns Hichilema against endorsement by alleged ‘PF rebels’

Former Kasenengwa Member of Parliament, Sensio Banda, has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to exercise caution in his interactions with rebel Patriotic Front Members of Parliament.

Banda said the same individuals were allegedly responsible for deceiving former Head of State Edgar Lungu, causing his defeat in the 2021 general elections.

In an interview with Zambia Monitor in Chipata District of Eastern Province, Banda said the individuals were now pledging unwavering support for President Hichilema even surpassing the founders of the UPND party, to protect their business interests.

He said the individuals would certainly be harshly judged by history, while wishing President Hichilema good luck with the endorsements from the allegedly ethically dubious figures.

Banda stated that considering the politicization of the 2025 Ncwala ceremony, it would be difficult to treat such events seriously and raise funds for traditional ceremonies.

“Ideally, traditional ceremonies should remain apolitical. However, the 2025 Ncwala ceremony’s main event became an opportunity for rebel PF MPs to endorse President HH, contradicting Nkosi Yama Nkosi’s claim that the event was supposed to be apolitical,” he said.

Banda stated that interestingly, the endorsers were individuals who previously failed to have a significant impact in the Petauke Central Constituency by-election.

He said it was questionable how President Hichilema expects the individuals to deliver Eastern Province with their level of desperation.

“The recent Ncwala ceremony seemed to be nothing more than a UPND and HH endorsement event. Despite Nkosi Yama Nkosi’s guidance against politics at Ncwala, it ended up being more politicized than ever,” Banda said.

He advised that Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people should once again engage with the politicians whether in ruling or opposition parties, to be apolitical for future Ncwala Ceremony events.

Banda said while the PF rebel MPs had the right to associate with and endorse whomever they choose, it was inappropriate to do so at a non-political event.

“Why exploit the Eastern Province for political and business gains? Thankfully, my fellow brothers and sisters are not easily swayed by these tactics,” he said.

Banda stated that Zambians were closely monitoring the country’s geopolitics amidst a struggling economy and the suffering of impoverished Zambians.
