Lusaka Magistrate, Trevor Kasanda, has acquitted former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, of three counts of attempting to interfere with witnesses.

Lusambo had been accused of attempting to prevent three witnesses—Cosmas Kapula Chalusa, Ernest Sumani, and Mundia Mataa—from testifying in a corruption case between February 1 and April 30, 2022, in Lusaka.

However, in his judgment delivered on Thursday, Magistrate Kasanda ruled that Lusambo was not guilty, citing insufficient evidence from the prosecution.

He noted that Lusambo’s interactions with the witnesses did not amount to interference or threats.

“The prosecution has not established a prima facie case that the accused obstructed the witnesses. Simply calling the witnesses does not amount to interference,” Magistrate Kasanda said.

Following the ruling, Lusambo expressed his gratitude, stating, “I thank God that I have been vindicated. Simply greeting the witnesses does not amount to interference.”
