Former Attorney General, Musa Mwenye, was briefly detained on Sunday at Woodlands Police Station for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, which led to a car accident.
Mwenye survived the crash in the early hours of Sunday along Lake Road near Kwacha Square Institute, opposite Choppies in Lusaka.
He lost control of his Toyota Hilux (BAX 1085), struck a gate, and crashed into a window of the Copperbelt University building.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the incident, stating that Mwenye lost control of the vehicle.
“The vehicle struck the gate, forced it open, and subsequently crashed into a window of the Copperbelt University building,” Chilabi said.

A breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol content higher than the legal limit of 0.38 mg/100 ml.
Mwenye was briefly held at Woodlands Police Station before being released to seek medical attention.
“The vehicle remains at Woodlands Police station as further investigations into the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol, in violation of Section 157(i) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, continue along with inquiries into other traffic offences,” Chilabi added.
