Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Director of Corporate and Consumer Affairs, Mwiika Malindima, has stated the media’s critical role in helping Zambia navigate its energy challenges by promoting awareness of alternative energy solutions.
Speaking during a media engagement in Kitwe on Thursday at Garden Court, Malindima reaffirmed ERB’s commitment to fostering transparent collaboration with the media through engagement and open dialogue.
“The media serves as a powerful medium through which the public receives news and insights on matters of public importance, including energy,” he said.
Malindima highlighted the importance of media partnerships in raising public awareness, promoting informed decision-making, and creating supportive environments for energy sector investments.

He noted that Zambia’s energy landscape was rapidly shifting towards renewable energy, with the media playing a crucial role in disseminating accurate information to help the public make informed choices.
“The media is crucial in shaping public understanding on service delivery, consumption, and regulation in the energy sector,” Malindima said.
He further observed that measures undertaken by the government to foster innovation and competition were instrumental in driving growth in the energy sector.
“As Zambia manages the climate-change-induced challenges in the energy sector, government has given a clear policy direction that has been encouraging the public to avoid over-reliance on existing energy sources but participate in building an energy mix that is more secure and sustainable for the future,” Malindima said.
