An environment enthusiast has urged the Zambian government to increase its budget for environmental protection in preparation for COP29.

Blutus Mbambi stated that greater investments in environmental protection were crucial for promoting sustainable development and equipping Zambia to address the impacts of climate change.

In an interview with Zambia Monitor on Friday, Mbambi stressed the importance of international cooperation and partnerships for securing climate finance needed for both mitigation and adaptation efforts.

“I’m committed to supporting Zambia’s climate goals by engaging with global leaders and amplifying the voices of African youth,” he said.

As Zambia advances its climate change ambitions for 2030, Mbambi highlighted the need for collective action across all sectors.

“This includes strengthening our climate policies, ramping up investment in renewable energy, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and taking bold steps to combat deforestation,” he pointed out.

He argued that prioritizing climate-smart initiatives would not only protect Zambia’s environment but also enhance livelihoods, create green jobs, and build resilience for communities most affected by climate change.

“Together, we can push for stronger environmental policies, innovative solutions, and a greener future for all. Our actions today will shape the sustainability of tomorrow, and I am passionate about helping Zambia achieve a low-carbon, resilient economy,” Mbambi stated.
