An energy enthusiast, Bornface Zulu, has called on the Zambian government to implement strategic measures to tackle the country’s ongoing energy crisis in 2025.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Zambia Monitor on Saturday, Zulu highlighted the urgent need for both the government and citizens to assess Zambia’s current and future energy demands critically.
“The demand for electricity has already surpassed available capacity, and this trend is expected to persist even when water reservoirs return to normal levels,” Zulu cautioned.
He warned against premature updates on water levels, stating that such announcements could create a false sense of security about the energy situation.
Zulu urged the government to prioritize investments in key energy projects such as Luapula, Kalungwishi, and the second phase of Maamba, emphasizing the importance of timely completion to boost the national grid.
He also stressed the need for collaborative efforts between the government and the public to build a resilient energy system capable of supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life for all Zambians.
