Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) reports that its efforts to mitigate the decrease in power generation have been compounded by unreliable power imports and technical problems.
According to the Corporation Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, a ZESCO interconnector importing power from South Africa to Namibia will remain out of service until July 1, 2024.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Maumbi noted that the corporation encountered disruptions at the Victoria Falls Power Station, leading to the loss of nearly 50 megawatts of power.

“Today, there was an interruption at Ndola Energy resulting in the loss of 47 megawatts out of the 105 megawatts off the grid,” he stated.
Additionally, Maumbi said acts of vandalism in certain areas exacerbate prolonged outages, especially following power cuts due to load management.
“These incidents upset the power system completely and cause delays in adhering to schedules for power rationing,” he stated.
He reiterated that ZESCO had instituted emergency load management extending beyond the scheduled 12 hours per day.
“Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, regular load management schedules will be publicised on the ZESCO Limited website and on various media platforms to ensure that customers are well informed about the power rationing activities,” he added.
