Divorce proceedings against Lusaka businessman Francis Muchemwa, widely known as “Commander 2,” have been discontinued in the Lusaka High Court following a notice filed by his wife, Totiwe Tembo.
Tembo, who initiated the divorce in August 2023, accused Muchemwa of physical, verbal and psychological abuse, claiming he had threatened her life and subjected her to degrading treatment throughout their marriage, which began in 2013.
She sought the dissolution of their marriage and custody of their two children, aged 10 and five.
In her initial petition, Tembo, a ZESCO employee, described incidents of verbal abuse, accusations of infidelity and derogatory comments that impacted her mental well-being.

She alleged that Muchemwa physically assaulted her in front of family and staff and recounted seeking refuge at a neighbor’s home following a reported assault on July 15.
The notice, filed on October 21, stated, “The petitioner, Totiwe Tembo Muchemwa, has wholly discontinued and/or withdrawn this petition for dissolution against the respondent, Francis Muchemwa.”
Tembo also claimed to have video and audio evidence of Muchemwa’s alleged abusive conduct, along with accusations that he made threats on her life and posted defamatory statements on social media.
Muchemwa was sentenced to three years in prison in July for possessing tainted property, with his luxury assets subsequently forfeited to the state.
