Disqualified FAZ candidate, Lombe, decries alleged flawed electoral process

One of the disqualified candidates in the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) electoral process, Mumbo Lombe, has spoken out after his appeal was dismissed.

Lombe was among eight candidates disqualified from contesting the FAZ elections, set for March 29, 2025.

While four candidates successfully appealed their disqualifications, his appeal was rejected.

In a telephone interview with Zambia Monitor, Lombe condemned the electoral process, calling it flawed and inconsistent.

“The whole process has had so many flaws,” he said. “We have witnessed multiple breaches of the FAZ constitution and electoral code. This cannot be ignored—we need to look at the bigger picture.”

Lombe claimed he had submitted substantial evidence to support his appeal but was shocked to learn that the Appeals Committee had only considered one part of his submission.

“It is shocking that the Appeals Committee, based on what they have written to me, only reviewed one set of the evidence I submitted,” he said.

He also alleged that FAZ officials ignored his attempts to seek clarification.

“I reached out to the FAZ General Secretary and the Chairman of the Appeals Committee, but except for one acknowledgment, my efforts were met with silence,” he added.

Lombe argued that the irregularities in the electoral process were a reflection of deeper issues within FAZ, saying they mirrored the mismanagement that has plagued Zambian football over the past nine years.
