The government has cautioned citizens against falling prey to spiritualism, warning that it was misleading vulnerable individuals into engaging in harmful and illegal practices.
Acting Gender Division Permanent Secretary, Kennedy Kalunga, expressed concern on Friday following the discovery of a human skeleton at a residence in Lusaka’s Garden Township.
The victim was identified as George Kalaba.
“The division strongly condemns this reprehensible act, which is a violation of human dignity and goes against the core values of morality, integrity, and respect that we uphold as a nation,” Kalunga said in a statement.
He reminded Zambians that as a Christian nation, the proper treatment of the deceased up to burial is sacred and must be respected.
Kalunga urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure those responsible for the crime are held accountable.
He noted that Kalaba’s wife, Sylvia, and their four children were in police custody to assist with investigations.

“The authorities must handle this case with urgency, care, and sensitivity,” he added.
Kalunga further warned citizens not to be lured into spiritualism, emphasizing that such practices not only endanger lives but also promote harm and distrust in society.
“We demand justice for George Kalaba, the residents of Garden Township, and all Zambians,” he said.
He called on everyone to uphold the law and maintain Christian and cultural principles to safeguard national values.
