The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has received 25 tons of food aid, valued at K1 million, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The donation comes at a crucial time as Zambia faces the impacts of a severe drought.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at DMMU headquarters on Thursday, DMMU National Coordinator, Gabriel Pollen. expressed gratitude for the timely support.

“The drought has posed a significant threat to our food security,” Pollen said.
He highlighted the shortfall of 122 million metric tons of maize due to the drought.
“Boreholes have dried up and the situation has become critical,”
Pollen noted that the donation will support the government’s efforts to provide relief to the 6.6 million people affected by the drought.
“We have set up a drought response plan aimed at safeguarding the Zambian people,” he added, emphasizing the importance of international partnerships in addressing the crisis.
