The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has renewed its appeal for collaboration from businesses, development agencies, and individuals to bolster government’s disaster response efforts, particularly in the wake of floods and droughts.

DMMU National Coordinator, Norman Chipakupaku, urged partners to join the government in scaling up its response to the ongoing disasters, including the threat of a potential cholera outbreak.

Chipakupaku made the appeal during a donation event where Enterprise Power Zambia Limited contributed food items, including beans, cooking oil, sugar, soya chunks, and salt, reportedly valued at K1.4 million, to support national drought relief efforts.

Highlighting the impact of climate change, Chipakupaku emphasized the importance of collaboration in building resilience and ensuring no community was left behind.

“As an emergency wing of government, we remain committed to coordinating effective disaster response and mitigation strategies,” he said.

Enterprise Power Zambia Limited Managing Director Emmanuel Kalenga also expressed the company’s support for government efforts under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.

“We are pleased to donate foodstuffs worth K1.4 million to support the DMMU’s work, as we believe that working together strengthens our response to the ongoing challenges,” Kalenga stated.

Chipakupaku reassured partners that all donations would be used transparently and efficiently to reach those in need.
