Former national team player, Rainford kalaba, has regained his full conscious and is able to talk, University Teaching Hospital (UTH) officials say.
UTH Public Relations Officer, Nzeba Chanda, said Kalaba’s condition had greatly improved and that he took his first meal today.
Chanda in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday said the medical team, however, continued to provide close monitoring and care.
“We shall continue to update the general public on his condition,” she said.
Kalaba, aged 38, was involved in a road accident that occurred around 12:20 hours at Kafue S Corners, near Kafue Quarry.
The accident involved a Howo truck horse with registration number AIC 805 and trailer number BAC 9540, driven by Muyunda Isaac, aged 32 years, of Kamwala South.
Kalaba was reportedly in a Mercedes Benz car, which collided with the truck.
The unmarked car was said to have been driven by an unidentified female driver of unknown residence who, police said, died on the spot.
He had sustained suspected internal injuries and had earlier been promptly transported to UTH for further medical attention where he has been admitted for the last seven days.
