DEC Assistant Public Relations Officer, Theresa Mawere, revealed that the destroyed substances included fresh and dry cannabis plants, cannabis seeds, Miraa, Pethidine, Cocaine, Diazepam, Heroin, and Codeine.

The destruction exercise was conducted on Friday in the presence of representatives from the District Joint Operations Committee, Chongwe Municipal Council’s Environmental Health Department, the Judiciary, DEC officers, and members of the media.

“This activity follows the conclusion of court proceedings and aligns with Section 34 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Number 35 of 2021 of the Laws of the Republic of Zambia,” Mawere explained in a statement issued in Lusaka.

She stated that DEC remained resolute in its commitment to ensuring that crime did not pay and that offenders were held accountable for their actions.

“We call on all citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities to the Commission so that we can collectively combat drug trafficking and create an environment conducive to socio-economic development,” she added.

The destruction exercise underscored the Commission’s efforts to rid communities of harmful substances while sending a strong message against drug trafficking and related crimes.
