DEC arrests two in Lusaka for possession of K145,800 in counterfeit notes (See others)

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two individuals for possessing counterfeit notes totaling K145,800.

Allan Tamba, DEC Public Relations Officer, stated that the complex operation was carried out in Lusaka Province, pursuant to Section 358 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The suspects, Joy Sichone (51) from Zingalume Compound and Sharon Namonje (27) from Garden House, were intercepted at a fuel station along Mungwi Road.

They intended to use the counterfeit currency to fraudulently purchase maize and soya beans from unsuspecting farmers.

Tamba warned the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

In another coordinated effort, DEC officers from Lusaka Province and the Canine Unit apprehended two individuals for trafficking cocaine.

Christine Lungu (43) from Garden Chilulu Compound was arrested for trafficking ten rocks of cocaine, and Sydney Njala (42), a businessman from the same area, was detained for trafficking two rocks of cocaine.

Additionally, DEC in Western Province arrested Mwendabai Mwendabai (25) from Nanjucha Village in Nalolo District for possessing 2.8 kilogrammes of loose cannabis.

In Mansa District, the Commission dismantled a major cannabis supply network, arresting Cane Soko Kaunda (25) from Chitamba Village and his accomplices, Brian Kyasauka (17) from Police Camp and Chanda Francis (32) from Chanda Chanda Guest House, for trafficking 210 sachets of high-potency cannabis weighing 389 grams.

Further, in a collaborative operation with other law enforcement agencies in Nchelenge District, Luapula Province, DEC apprehended Wilson Bwalya (69) for trafficking 27.16 kilograms of suspected dry loose cannabis, and Abraham Musonda (32) for trafficking 7.82 kilograms of dry loose cannabis.
