‘Deal with domestic issues,’ group urges Hichilema not to be carried away by praises

The Operation Young Vote (OYV) says President Hakainde Hichilema should not be complacent about the achievements and accolades being received locally and internationally.

President Hichilema had been described by the African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, as a selfless leader committed to uplifting the standards of Zambia.

But OYV Executive Director, Guess Nyirenda, said  President Hichlema  and the United Party  for National Development (UPND )  should  not  to be complacent  in attending to challenges, especially domestic ones because of the praises and accolades showered on Zambia’s President.

“Instead the President and his government must ensure that they deliver in all areas where they have lacked, dragged their feet and have somewhat dismal performance,” Nyirenda  said in a statement  on Thursday.

He said  the government  should  work on dealing  with the high cost of living by ensuring that the mines were  up and running and  while embarking on constitutional and legal reforms.

“There is procrastination and/or failure to enact the Access to Information, repeal and replace the Public Order and the NGO Acts  among many issues Zambians are yearning to see done in the first term of the UPND,” Nyirenda said.

However, he said  OYV welcomes  the praises heaped on President  Hichilema  by the continental body.

“As OYV, we, not only pay tribute, but appreciate the description and acknowledgement of President Hichilema  type of leadership, capabilities and credentials by such leaders of renowned stature on the continent and globally,”  Nyirenda said.
