Court sets July 10 as trial date for Lusaka driver accused of raping 81-year-old landlady

Trial has been scheduled for July 10, 2024, in the case of a 24-year-old driver from Lusaka’s Shatumbu area accused of raping his 81-year-old landlord.

Maurice Chomba is also charged with having carnal knowledge of the victim against the order of nature.

The allegations state that on May 5, 2024, Chomba entered the woman’s house and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

He was found in the act by the victim’s grandson, who heard her crying.

Appearing before Lusaka Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya, Chomba pleaded not guilty to both offences.

The state is expected to bring five witnesses to prove its case.

The court has set June 28 for mention, and the trial will commence on July 10, 2024.
