Lusaka Magistrate, Silvia Munyinya, has issued a bench warrant against National Democratic Congress (NDC) president, Saboi Imboela, for failing to appear in court.

Imboela faces two counts of libel for allegedly publishing defamatory statements against State House Media Director, Clayson Hamasaka, on her Facebook page between September 9 and 10, 2022.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During the trial, Imboela was found with a case to answer.

However, when the matter came up on Tuesday for continued defense, she was absent, along with her lawyers.

State advocate Sipholiano Phiri applied for a bench warrant, which Magistrate Munyinya granted.

The warrant was returnable on August 20, requiring Imboela to appear in court on that date or risk being arrested and brought before the court.
