An emotional atmosphere filled the Lusaka Magistrate Court room when a medical expert testified that incest victim was found with HIV, fungal infection and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
This is a matter where a businessman and pastor of Emmasdale area, Teddy Simwanza, is accused of sexually abusing his daughter.

Background to the matter us that around last year, police received a report that Simwaza was allegedly defiling his biological daughter whose mother died when she was aged eight.
When the matter came up before Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya, Dr Rokaya Ginwalla, Head of the gender based violence unit at University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) told the court that physical tests showed hymen tear and discharge.
“There was redness around the virgina suggesting an infection. Virginal swab test for sperms came out positive. She had fungal like discharge. It was the first time she was hearing that she was HIV positive,” Dr Ginwalla stated.
When cross examined if a DNA test was conducted to ascertain the owner of the spermatozo found on the victim, the medical expert said they could not do it as Zambia did not have a DNA laboratory then.
