Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has announced a 50 percent reduction in local license fees for courier services.
Zambia Information Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) will now charge K5,000 for local license fees for couriers services from the annual K10,000.
International license fees will now be pegged at K10,000 from K15,000 annually.
Mutati said this was to encourage local players in the industry and supports its growth.

“This represents a significant reduction of between 50 percent and 33 percent. This is meant to encourage the participation of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the sector,” he said.
Addressing journalists in Lusaka on Tuesday, Mutati said this will in turn increase competition and reduce unemployment in the country.
The Minister also signed a Statutory Instrument (SI) to effect the new licensing fees.
Mutati explained that the move was also expected to increase government’s revenues through the payment of various taxes due to increased participation of players in the sector.
Speaking at the same function, Postal and Courier Services Association of Zambia president Gabriel Mumba said this would double the number of courier service players in the sector from the current 63.
Mumba said the Association’s target for this year with regard to local postal and courier service players was placed at 40 percent.
“With this reduction we are going to attain our projection. This is something that we have been fighting for, for the last six years.
“We commend government for listening to our plea and acknowledging our call as an Association,” he said.
