Police in Lusaka have arrested a couple for abducting 20-year-old Agness Mutemwa of Kanyama Compound, who was found tied up and hidden under their bed.
The suspects, identified as Charles Kashimba, aged 45, and his wife Brenda Njimba, aged 42, were arrested following a report filed by the victim’s father, Henry Mutemwa, 50, of John Laing Compound.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday.
According to Hamoonga, the abduction occurred between Saturday, April 5, 2025, around 18:00 hours, and the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 01:00 hours, within the same compound.
“Kanyama Police Station, through Kampasa Police Post, received a report of abduction today, April 6, 2025, at approximately 02:00 hours, from Mr. Henry Mutemwa,” Hamoonga said.
Brief facts gathered by the police indicated that Agness went missing from her parents’ home at the stated time.
During search efforts, the family received disturbing messages from her mobile phone, suggesting she had been tied up and was hidden under a bed nearby.
“Acting swiftly on the information, a team of officers accompanied by family members proceeded to the house in question,” Hamoonga stated.
Upon arrival, officers found Agness bound with ropes and concealed under a bed in a house occupied by Kashimba and his wife.
Other occupants included Patricia Chisweka, 21, the couple’s sister-in-law, and two female juveniles aged 11 and 17.
Photographic evidence was secured from the scene, and the adults failed to provide a credible explanation regarding the victim’s condition or presence in the home.
They have since been detained to assist with investigations.

“Investigations into the matter remain active, and the Zambia Police Service will ensure that justice is served,” Hamoonga said.
He thanked the public for their cooperation and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly.
